Book Review: Into the Wild (Warriors #1) by Erin Hunter

1183379

Another book from my summer reading list.  My original intention was to read the entire series.  I had an ambitious idea of jumping in and reading a book every 1 to 2 days.   Didn’t quite pan out that way.

The basic story follows Rusty – whose name changes 2 more times in this book, and even more in later volumes.  He is a house cat who journeys into the woods and joins the warring clans of cats in the wild.

The book is book 1 of a 6 book series, which is part one of what is currently a 4 series set, and there are spin off one-off novels.  There are a lot of cats to write about!

The writing is not the core here.  This is a plot and character driven story.  The writing is function and since this is a young adult/teen book is more what I excepted.  The book series is actually written by a group of people all under the pseudonym of Erin Hunter.

Overall, the book takes itself a little seriously but a fun adventure story. Almost a gateway drug to big epic fantasy with lots of characters and swinging allegiances and organization. Keeping track of all the cats was a bit much and I am sure the series only adds more. Heck, their names change! I can see why my son liked them so much.  He is currently on book 3 of the second series.  He has not been as excited about that series; the main character is different.

Summer reading

Summer is upon us and with that comes a fall back from my youth: summer reading.

From the photo, I will be reading the Farseer trilogy from Robin Hobb, the first Warriors series , and the Hunger Games series. Missing in the photo are the first Warriors book (on loan) and the third Hunger games book(due out August).

After I finish my current read I will be reading either The Girl Who Played With Fire or In The Woods, and then start on summer reading.

Up first will be The Farseer trilogy followed by The Warriors. The Hunger Games will be last so that I will be reading them when the third book is released.

Now, you may notice the simplier reading level here. You are right, they are absolutly light fare. And thank goodness! Summer is for relaxing!

I may throw in a graphic novel or three along the way.

Also – way behind on publishing book reviews. I have four to write and will be finishing up my current read very soon.

Book Review: The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born

The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born

The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born

Let’s get the proper credits out of the way here:

The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born is a seven-issue comic book limited series, published by Marvel Comics. It is the first story arc of five based on The Dark Tower series of novels by Stephen King. It is plotted by Robin Furth, scripted by Peter David, and illustrated by Jae Lee and Richard Isanove. Stephen King serves as Creative and Executive Director of the project.

I bought this graphic novel some time ago with the second arc as well, The Long Road Home.  They are based on the Dark Tower series, but more specifically on the flashback story of Wizard and Glass (Book 4). It is considered the strongest part of the series, and to see Roland’s origin story was great.
