Apple snuck out an all new iPod Shuffle today. No buttons. Looks like a little aluminum cylindar. All the controls are on the earbuds. It also has a text-to-speech feature that allows the track and artist info to be read to you. And the price – $79 for a 4GB model. Not bad.
My only complaint is the controls on earbuds. The problem here is that a lot of folks upgrade or replace or break or something to the earbuds. Gotta buy the Apple model. Not crazy about that. Looks tight though.
UPDATE:
This is from the CNET article on it. Looks like Apple will play nice and even have an adapter that works with other headphones.
The only controls on the device itself are the on/off switch and the shuffle/llnear switch, Joswiak said. Apple will ship its own in-ear headphones with the Shuffle, but third-parties will be able to make their own headphones that have the controls, and they’ll also make adapters that will let you use the controls with existing headphones, he said.
