Recently went through a variety case from Uinta Brewing. From their site:
Uinta Brewing was established in 1993 to produce fresh, full-flavored beers for distribution. Named after Utah’s highest mountain range, Uinta was the first distributing craft brewed brewery in Salt Lake City.
3 beers in the case, 8 of each. My general impression:
Angler Pale ale
The pale ale was sticky and icky. And not in a good way. I found this one almost undrinkable. It was bubblegummy and generally a mismatch of bad flavors. This one was left alone in the fridge for a while it was so BLAH.
Totally did not dig this one

Solstice Kolsch style Ale
The Kolsch was a different story. This was the best of the set. It was a text book Kolsch but very refreshing. Nice clear and clean brew.

Gelande Amber Lager

The Gelande Amber Lager was fine and reminded me A LOT of Yuengling . I mean a lot. Like brown bottle version.

Overall, the brews were to style and not mind blowing. But a variety case is typically an introduction to a brewery and their “greatest hits”. I would be intrigued to try their XIV anniversary ale.

American Stout (on left) with A California Red and a Pale Ale (which I did not get to try
)
I sampled the new American Stout from Fool Circle over the weekend. A fine textbook stout. Not a radical redefinition and not a lame brew. It pours dark with a short head. Nice malty meets hoppy-aroma. Sweet hops up front with warming malts to finish the ride. Nice.

This past weekend I went to a Wine & Cheese event. So what did I bring? Beer of course! I went through my local “cool beer place” and looked and found a bottle of Allagash Fluxus. I did not know until getting ready to write this that this was the 2007 version.
The beer comes in a 750ml corked and caged bottle and pours a hazy gold. The 2 finger head leaves lots of laces and clings. The aroma was a delight, with spices a plenty.
I found the taste very good with a strong back of the throat flavor. The body was a nice medium weight. I think the alcohol had a presence but was balanced overall.

April 7 is the 75th anniversary of the return of beer officially as prohibition came to a close.
Beer has had a hard time since, but in the last 15 years has really seen a rebirth of the American Beer. For many years the best American brews were corporate swill that still dominate the market today. Thankfully the craft brew world has had enough impact that the big brews have to speak up about it.
Now if I could only buy a six-pack in PA!
