Back in January, Brian and I got together and brewed this baby up. It only took us 4 years to get it together. Was it worth the wait? Well, four years is a long time and the beer better be pretty damn good.

The brew pours a deep dark brown, nearly opaque and a chocolaty head, that could pour fuller. A sniff brings out the honey sweetness. It is there and present but not overwhelming. I described it as “honeysuckle from your neighbors yard” to my brother. Up next - the taste.

The brew is smooth and has a creamy body. The roastedness comes through fully and the honey again rears its head as the aftertaste really lingers. It is the aftertaste that I think is my favorite part of the brew. It is a nice warmer clocking in at a comfortable 6.5% alc/vol and after a couple, you get a nice glow.

I am really pleased with the results and think it is a better brew than the first Zog’s Grog. I really think this could be “tightened up” and made even better. Brian has suggested more oatmeal to increase the creaminess. I think that is a good idea.

I sure would like to brew again soon. I need to feel more confident about it. Brian has it so refined in process and has such a rhythm, that it can be a little intimidating.

Here are the 2 labels I made up in the past. I like the purple one better. They both need to be updated. Too bad I do not have the original PSD’s any more.
