To hell with genres
Michael Chabon’s Yiddish Policemen’s Union continues to break them rules. His alternate-history detective novel The Yiddish Policemen’s Union is the first novel ever to get nominated for an Edgar award (for mysteries) as well as a Nebula (for science fiction.)

February 26th, 2008Those are always the best. I was recently putting my “library” into the database at Listal, and then adding tags based on what genre I thought the fell into. It was quite amusing to come across a book that would make me sit and wonder “How do I tag this one?”

February 26th, 2008I love not knowing what the heck genre a book goes into. There is an over-genre of things anyway. SF and Fantasy breakdowns are great, so many that are so ridiculous to me. It is the ability to over categorizes that turns people away from things. Micheal Chabon said something - and I do not have the source - about that he just likes to write books. He left it at that. What a crazy idea.
