New Car

We went today and bought a car. After nearly 3 years, it was time to say goodbye to the Camry. It was costing to much to maintain and was on it’s way out.

What we have gotten is a 2003 VW Jetta Wagon. We wanted a car with a little more space, but still smaller. This was a good fit. Also with the options and bright red color, it is as fun as a wagon can really be.

(Funny - I think I took the pictures of the Jetta and the Camry in the same spot next to our minivan)

Commodore 64 turns 25

December 10 , 2007 - The Commodore 64 turns 25 years old. I get misty just thinking about it.

In the mean time, here is a 92 minute lecture/appreciation/geek-a-thon on the C64 from the Computer History Museum. (I believe this maybe the longest video on YouTube)

And of course, you can download the ROMS and relive your wasted afternoons in the basement playing Ultimate Wizard and rocking out on your 300 BAUD modem.

Terry Pratchett reveals he has rare, early-onset Alzheimer’s

Joel directed me to the not so good news.

Terry Pratchett

Folks,

I would have liked to keep this one quiet for a little while, but because of upcoming conventions and of course the need to keep my publishers informed, it seems to me unfair to withhold the news. I have been diagnosed with a very rare form of early onset Alzheimer’s, which lay behind this year’s phantom “stroke”.

We are taking it fairly philosophically down here and possibly with a mild optimism. For now work is continuing on the completion of Nation and the basic notes are already being laid down for Unseen Academicals. All other things being equal, I expect to meet most current and, as far as possible, future commitments but will discuss things with the various organisers. Frankly, I would prefer it if people kept things cheerful, because I think there’s time for at least a few more books yet :o)

PS I would just like to draw attention to everyone reading the above that this should be interpreted as ‘I am not dead’. I will, of course, be dead at some future point, as will everybody else. For me, this maybe further off than you think - it’s too soon to tell. I know it’s a very human thing to say “Is there anything I can do”, but in this case I would only entertain offers from very high-end experts in brain chemistry.

duelity

Watch the universe grow in this side by side split screen of creation verses evolution. Regardless of which side of the screen you see as “right”, it is a neat little movie.

The art of writing a review

I learned a thing or two about review writing. Fist thing first - review a product that many people can relate to or have knowledge of.

Rule 2 - Try to review it before the total number of review reaches 1000.

Rule 3 - Try to make your review unique.

Beer Review: A Case of Fool Circle

You read that right - a freakin’ case bitches! Nice having a birthday and a kick-ass brother who is a homebrewer. Least I can do is tell you about them.

For my birthday I received a case of Fool Circle home brew beers. 6 types, 4 of each. In the case were the following:

Go and check out Brian’s notes and comments about all of them….
