Double dumb
I saw this article which talks about 2 dumb things. 1 - Lucas is going to make 2 more Star Wars movies, for TV - Can you say Ewok movies! 2 - They talk about Rush’s (the band) first week album sales and compare them to Journey, Poison and all things 80’s

May 10th, 2007Yeah. And they’re going to make three more Terminator movies also. James Cameron and The Governator won’t be involved.
Can you say “suckfest ‘09″?

May 10th, 2007Guys, I’m just worried about what Lucas is doing to destroy my favorite fictional character of all time - Indiana Jones. The man is seriously an idiot, and I hope that Steven Spielberg exercises all of his director/co-exec producer power to circumvent any childish inanity Lucas may suggest or insist on including.

May 10th, 2007Indiana Jones is a different project and Spielberg will be sincere about it, along with Harrison Ford. My big Lucas problem is his writing. He writes a good STORY but should turn SCREEN WRITING duties over to someone else (Lawrence Kasdan anyone?).

May 10th, 2007Here’s a bit from an interview Frank Darabont did with MTV last month:
MTV: Would you say one of those bad experiences is the time you spent writing the aborted Indiana Jones 4 script?
Darabont: “”Indy” is definitely in that category, topping the list. It showed me how badly things can go. I spent a year of very determined effort on something I was very excited about, working very closely with Steven Spielberg and coming up with a result that I and he felt was terrific. He wanted to direct it as his next movie, and then suddenly the whole thing goes down in flames because George Lucas doesn’t like the script.”
MTV: Did you ever speak to George Lucas directly?
Darabont: “Yes! I told him he was crazy. I said, “You have a fantastic script. I think you’re insane, George.” You can say things like that to George, and he doesn’t even blink. He’s one of the most stubborn men I know.”

Oh, and here’s a bit from USA Today last month as well:
Jokes have been made about how the franchise will keep 64-year-old star Harrison Ford up and running, but Lucas doesn’t see that as a problem.
“He’s not running in any of the movies,” Lucas says. “He’s either on a horse or driving a car or a motorcycle. And he’ll play his age in this movie with what’s appropriate. The chases are more suspenseful than speedy. Like the rolling ball in the first film — it’s not that he’s running that fast, it’s that there’s a giant ball coming at him. And he will get beat up, which is a tradition for us.”"
Lucas, who also is in pre-production on a “bare-bones, action-heavy” Star Wars live-action TV series, says there’ll still be plenty of action in Indy 4, the official title of which he hopes to keep under wraps until the first trailer hits theaters around Thanksgiving.
Sean Connery has yet to sign on as Indiana’s father, Dr. Henry Jones, but Lucas says, “We’re still trying.”
It wasn’t his idea to cast Cate Blanchett as Ford’s new leading lady, he says. “That’s who my director wanted, and I always bow to the wishes of my director,” Lucas says of Spielberg. “I approved it because she seemed like a good idea. When I met her at the Academy Awards, I told her, ‘Hey, you work for me now!’”
Can you understand why I’m worried?

May 10th, 2007I think without anything you placed here, there is a legit concern. BUT at the same time you are sourcing a person who was turn-down, aka has an axe to grind.
No argument on Darabont as a talent - Shawshank along cements that- but we do not know WHAT the script was about. YES Speilberg said yes. MAYBE it will be ok.
I am not sure why the Cate Blanchett and Sean Connery issues are concerning. So what if it was not his idea to cast her. He does not say there is a problem with it. And Connery will come around.
I have no problem with a 64 year old Indy. We know from the Young Indy chronicles that he lives exceptionally long because of the Grail.
I think we need to wait and see. I unfortunately see you being disappointed - no matter what. That is a whole lot of fan site reading which are always radically opinionated and will publish any hearsay.
You have to ask why Darabont is doing interviews to talk about something that did not happen? Got his dander up?
Mike http://adventuresofmike.net
May 10th, 2007I think it all boils down to the quality of output of Spielberg vs that of Lucas. I trust Spielberg’s judgment much more than Lucas’. Darabont’s script was probably “too adult/intelligent” for the increasingly childish Lucas.
David http://
May 10th, 2007I read something about Darabont’s script that was weird. And I cannot remember what it was - aliens? Nazi still? Something was weird.
But you still have to ask why this guy has such an axe to grind - he was PAID WELL for it regardless.
Mike http://adventuresofmike.net
May 10th, 2007Yes, I’m sure he was paid well. I don’t know what his motivation is, but my point is that if were a producer and a script was presented to you that Spielberg liked, but Lucas didn’t, whose judgment would you value more?
David http://
May 10th, 2007I am guessing your “if I was a producer” argument is where opinion takes over. I cannot disagree with your opinion . BUT George IS the producer.
Give it a chance and see what happens. Spielberg is still directing. Let them make the movie and for the love of Pete, go into the movie with an open mind and do not let the fanboi sites make up your mind.

May 10th, 2007You guys are arguing the merits of two great film makers and a fourth movie of an already exceptional franchise when the real issue about that article was that the idiot called Rush an 80’s hair band. Now come on! Get your priorities straight. A Canadian trio of musicians is much more important then some stupid movie about some 64 year old guy.
David http://
May 10th, 2007THANK GOD! Someone spoke up on the DOUBLE dumb part!
Mike http://adventuresofmike.net
May 10th, 2007The comment re: Rush was easy to overlook, as it was too dumb to even consider.
