Im a man of wealth and taste
- The Rolling Stones
I have written this a week ago but thanks to a Wordpress Glitch, and then Colin coming along, I am only getting to this now.
I am going to keep this short because I have written this 3 times, all of which have gotten eaten. AND I am frustrated by it.
The book is a well written take on the Battle of Heaven. Brust uses dialog primarily, and this would lend well to a graphic novel treatment or even an illustrated edition, similar to the original release of Stardust by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess.
The thing I like the most is the who is good and who is evil thing being blended up. I am a big fan of good/evil being treated as a major tool and drawing the reader to sympathy for characters that you did not think you could and a dislike of the ones that would be “good” by default. Because of strong Judeo/Christian imagery, you come into this book expecting Satan to be the baddy and Yahweh being the goody. Turns out the first is misunderstood and slow in decision making and the second a little power hungry and ,to me, far to easily dupped. That is my one complaint is that is seems Yahweh is convinced of Satan’s undermining (which is not happening) by one corrupt, even more power hungry angel. If he is supposed to be all seeing, you would think he would think a little more.
I also disagree with my brother-in-law over those of strict Christian leanings would be offended, taken back or angered. I have know many of deep faith, be is Christian or otherwise, and any with a strong faith and good imagination would enjoy this book.

I always enjoy a good tale about the battle between good and evil. I might have to hunt this one down for myself…
