After the Brewfest, Catherine and I headed into Philadelphia for dinner at Morimoto. This was something that we had tried in the past and had to cancel because of financial reasons. We made it this time and WOW! what an experience!.
We arrived at 6pm for our 5:30 reservation because of one wrong turn that took us too far out of our way coming from Media. Once seated, the service began and we were treated elegantly and with speed. We decided to get the Morimoto Omakase. It is described as follows from the website:
CHEF’S CHOICE A MULTI-COURSE TASTING MENU DESIGNED TO ALLOW YOU TO EXPERIENCE THE ESSENCE OF MORIMOTO’S CUISINE
It was delightful! We had 8 courses starting with (and Catherine can correct me if I am wrong) Tuna tartar with caviar. The second was Red Snapper in hot oil and spices. Our third course was raw Yellow Fin salad with an herbal mayonnaise. Fourth course: palate cleanser of sorbet, which I cannot remember which herbs were in it now. Fifth was steamed halibut and sixth was Kobe Beef with sweet potatoes. For our seventh course we had a 5-piece Sushi sampler. It was my first time having Sushi and I must say I liked the fattier fish pieces verses the leaner ones. The Orange Ruffie tasted like the ocean :).
For desert we had a soy-gelatin like item that neither Catherine or I cared for and we each ate about 2 bites. I left the table to use the restroom and when I returned Catherine informed me that because we did not care for the desert our server had insisted upon replacing it. We received 2 deserts, a 3 flavor sorbet sampling plate and a chocolate mouse like dish with rice crunchies. Both were excellent.
It was a wonderful dinner and the perfect way to say thanks to Catherine for all she does as a Mother’s day gift.

2So glad you got to go there. It’s really one of the better restaurants in our area. You made a very wise choice with the omakase, and I’m glad that you enjoyed your first sushi experience.
I will warn you - it’s habit forming. Before long, you’ll be trying to see how many different varieties of hand rolls you have tried, or tackling a sushi boat at your local Japanese eatery.
Enjoy!
I’m glad that you both had a nice dining experience, and a server that truly understands their craft and your enjoyment.
Sounds like a very special meal, and a treat for Mother’s Day…
