My new iPod that I received at Christmas died this evening. I ran the latest iPod update release and it totally took the iPod down. Now it is off to the shop, at least the paper work is filed. I need to now wait for the shipping box and then to ship it to then get a new iPod in the mail. And they better replace the whole thing. As a result of the “update” my iPod simple sits here with a bright white screen and the backlight stuck on. So not only is the firmware toasted, but now the screen is getting done in as a result. UGH!! What a pain.
I really wish there was some compensation I could get outta this. A few free songs from iTunes, some form of something. Just a huge pain. I use my iPod at work because I share an office and as a result there is a lot of “white noise”. I like to be able to lock it out.

Here is my iPod with it’s white screen of “happiness”
It should be a couple weeks. I really should be able to get the 2 weeks added to the end of warranty period. What a pain.

1Sorry your little music companion went belly up on you.
Maybe it was karma coming back at you for the racism.
Why’s it got to be “white noise”, yo? What’s wrong with black noise? You got a black iPod, but you ain’t proud enough of your heritage to keep it real?

2Uggh. Well, since you and I seem to have bad things happen to us at the same time, I am proud to report that my car started sputtering on the way home last night. I brought it to the garage this morning: $410 to fix. Turns out the spark plugs have been getting hit with oil, which is causing the misfire. I need to replace the plugs and wires, and fix the oil leak.

3It’s alright - my cell is gonna have to be replaced also. Whenever I enter text - be it in a message or a phone book entry, it freezes. More on that saga soon.

4So, ummmm, should I NOT update my iTunes/iPod to the latest software, or do you think it was a “personal” glitch?

5I am not sure. Mine updated “weird”. I would guess if this was a lot more frequent they would have released new software right now. The software was released almost 2 weeks ago so it has been distributed pretty widley by now.
It’s your call. I was running the update because I had iTunes tell me it could not read my iPod’s library so maybe that was a sign that something was “up”.
You could wait until the next release, there were no major changes with the exception of being able to set a maximum volume.
