Another fun read from Mr. Moore.

I had previously read Island of the Sequined Love Nun some time ago. I had received it from my pal Robert as a Christmas gift and enjoyed it quite a bit. I think it was lost on me the quality of the humor and subtleties. In retrospect, I may give it another go. Reading Practical Demonkeeping has given that perspective.
It is an interesting, short (approx. 240 pages) romp in a California Coastal town called Pine Cove. It is a small sleepy town where Monday looks a lot like Tuesday which happens to be the same as the Sunday before. Travis and Catch (a demon) come into town and everything gets turned topsy turvey.

The book reads very fast . I read the first 30 pages Sunday night, the middle 170 pages yesterday and the last 40 pages this morning. On his site, Chris makes a comment that her overheard a literary agent comment that horror could be combined with any genre except whimsey. Chris seems to have taken this as if the agent threw down the gauntlet. I am not so sure I would say it is a perfect marriage and I think that has more to do with the fantasy overtones which take the horror back a step. One thing about this book, it would make a very cool movie. The way it is written would translate very well, sorta a Get Shorty feeling film.
