What a ride!

I have been "told" to read this book for a very long time. I finally gave in to peer pressure and surrendered myself to the adventure.
This serious page-turner was an exciting ride that had all that anyone could want in a mystery novel and a few bonuses thrown in; including Teddy Roosevelt as a major supporting character. Just for reference the title, The Alienist, refers to what a psychologist may be called at the turn of the 20th century. This book finds us in the late 1800′S in New York city trying to find the murderer who brutally murders boy-whores. Gotcha hooked yet?
The book is very well written with fast prose and characters that are deep complicated and flawed all at the same time. The attention to detail of turn of the century New York is excellent, you can almost smell the stench. It truly keeps you guessing and rooting for our heroes. For anyone that just wants a good read, even someone who "does not like mystery" - this is a bullseye.
